A Court in the Light of the Past – Presenting the Miniature Model of the Court of the Bishop of Buda

As part of the event ‘Serbian Days – Month of Serbian Culture in Hungary’, on 5 September 2025, the miniature model of the former Episcopal Court of the Bishop of Buda was ceremonially presented at the Serbian Ecclesiastical Museum of Szentendre. Designed by architect Vladimir Nikolić, the Episcopal Court of Buda was built in 1897, though it was demolished after the damage it sustained in World War II.

The reconstruction project of the episcopal residence was realised on the basis of surviving architectural plans and old photographs.  The model was produced by experts from the Petrovaradin Provincial Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments.  Even though the idea to construct an impressive episcopal residence in the eponymous centre of the eparchy had been raised already in the early 19th century, it was not until the end of the century that it would be brought to fruition. The model has been put on display in the exhibition hall of the museum, also featuring portraits of the Bishops of Buda.
