The publication was created with the blessing of His Holiness Porfirije, Serbian Patriarch, as part of the monumental project ‘Researching, Recording and Academically Describing Serbian Medieval Manuscripts Kept in Foreign Collections’ of the Library of the Serbian Patriarchate.

It represents the final outcome of long years of work by a group of experts within the Library of the Serbian Patriarchate. For the first time, the book offers an overview and scholarly descriptions of all the Serbian manuscripts found in the territory of contemporary Hungary – not only items held by the Library of the Serbian Orthodox Eparchy of Buda but also those kept in state, university and other libraries inside Hungary. This enables the reader to access a layer of cultural and religious history which has hitherto not been scrutinised in its entirety, despite having inestimable importance for the appreciation of the complete identity of Serbs in the Danube Region.

At the ceremonial book launch, the significance of the book, as well as of the whole project, was discussed by Koszta Vukovits, PhD, Director of the Serbian Ecclesiastical Museum of Szentendre, Vladan Trijić, PhD, from the National Library of Serbia, Mr. Dučica Grbić, MA, from the Library of Matica Srpska, and Zoran Nedeljković, PhD, Director of the Library of the Serbian Patriarchate.
