The exhibition “Matrix for Two Centuries” by Dr. Danilo Vuksanović was officially opened at the Serbian Church Museum in Szentendre on Friday, May 29, 2026, as part of the celebration of the great jubilee – 200 years since the founding of Matica Srpska, the oldest Serbian scientific, literary and cultural institution.
The exhibition represents a unique encounter between cultural heritage and contemporary artistic expression. Starting from the original printing blocks kept in the collection of the Matica Srpska Gallery, Danilo Vuksanović, through various techniques of contemporary art, has reinterpreted some of the most significant visual symbols of the history of Matica Srpska. Along with the author’s contemporary works, visitors have the opportunity to see the original blocks, as well as digital reproductions of the works of art that served as inspiration for their creation.
The ceremony was blessed and opened with a welcoming speech by His Eminence Metropolitan of Buda, G. Lukijan, and then the ceremonial gathering was addressed by Kosta Vuković, curator-director of the Museum, Tijana Palkovljević Bugarski, director of the Matica Srpska Gallery, as well as Balazs Totmajor, a member of the Hungarian Parliament, who expressed his satisfaction that such cultural events are being organized in Szentendre, in a city that has been a meeting place for peoples, faiths and cultures for centuries. The exhibition was ceremonially opened by the President of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, Maja Gojković.
