For this year’s Exhibit of the Year, the icon The Crucifixion of Christ (1803) from the New Testament feast scenes was chosen at the Serbian Ecclesiastical Museum in 2023. The picture was painted by Mihailo Živković (1776-1824), a painter from Buda.
To mark the occasion, a talk discussing the history of the icon, as well as the developmental path and the significance of the painter Mihailo Živković was given. The icon of the Crucifixion of Christ found its way into the Museum’s basic stock from the legacy of the Žužvik-Stefanović family of Szentendre through gifting.
The title ‘Exhibit of the Year’ was announced as part of the event ‘Open Churches in Szentendre’ organised by the Ferenczy Museum, in the garden of the Serbian Ecclesiastical Museum, on 9 September 2023.
